We spent the first weekend in August 2024 at my brother-in-law’s place for their wedding day with my sister. My family and I drove for about an hour to get to Tamugan, Davao. There were 6 adults and 3 kids going there in total. We had a great time with my family and my brother-in-law’s family. They’re all amazing!

We spent about an hour at the wedding ceremony at the church then went back to my brother-in-law’s place for the reception. The kids and I are so happy with the food, especially the lechon baboy. The only time we were satisfied with the lechon skin; it was so tasty and crispy. All because my brother-in-law prioritized filling our plates with lechon!

I also want to highlight a good Bayanihan in the neighborhood. My sister and her hubby thought that their family was the only one who would cover the kitchen work and other stuff. But the night before the wedding, the neighbors, relatives, and workmates volunteered to prep the food – slicing the veggies, and meat; cooking, cleaning, and doing all the necessary work in the kitchen. They voluntarily lend their big woke, pans, pots, and other kinds of stuff needed to cook the food.

My sister’s wedding was simple. They didn’t hire people to organize stuff. Everything was a DIY. We did my sister's glam – from hair down to shoes, and my in-law's siblings planned the backdraft and helped with the cleaning.

The next day, we went to the river for about 15 minutes. We’re all tanned after swimming for about 2 hours and hiking back for another 15 minutes. It was all tiring, but we all enjoyed the moment!

In the afternoon, my eldest sister had a headache caused by lack of sleep for how many days. She asked me to get the first aid kit from her bag. I was surprised like wow! Not everyone has a first aid kit! I don’t have one either. In just seconds, I realized how important this thing is and that everyone needs one!

I saw on her first aid kit, there are different kinds of medicine. One is the Biogesic she took for her headache. The rest, I missed to check. I was then inspired to pack a basic kit for myself and my family.

You may start to pack your first aid kit too! You can start by packing the following:

· Bandages (different sizes)

· Medicine (e.g. Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, Loperamide, Mefenamic acid, Antihistamine, Antibacterial cream)

· Rubbing alcohol

· Antiseptic solution (e.g. Betadine)

· Gauze pads

· Cotton swabs/Cotton buds

· Medical tape (e.g. Mediplast)

· Burn ointment (e.g. Petroleum jelly, Nitrofurazone)

· Small medical tools like scissors and tweezers

· Hot/cold packs

· Thermometer

· Sterile gloves

You can choose a handy bag or container where you pack your first aid kit. I say “handy” because you can easily bring it and put it wherever it’s accessible. You can carry it daily or place it in your car, or bag.

What are your thoughts? Do you also plan to have a first aid kit for yourself?

Who are you planning to influence?

This is actually a great safety plan for you and your family!

Keep safe! xx
